Introduction

RockID ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our RockID mobile application (the "App").

Summary

  • We analyze photos you choose (camera or library) to identify rocks, minerals, gemstones and fossils.
  • Scan history and images are stored locally on your device.
  • Photos are sent to our servers only to perform identification, then returned as results.
  • We do not sell personal data.

Tracking and Advertising

We do not use your data for advertising and we do not track you across apps or websites.

Information We Process

Photos and scan inputs

When you scan, the app processes the image you provide. The image is transmitted to our backend for identification.

App account and abuse prevention

The app uses an app account identifier to prevent abuse (for example, rate limiting). This identifier is not meant to identify you personally.

Diagnostics

We may process basic technical diagnostics (such as error codes and request identifiers) to keep the service reliable.

Legal Basis for Processing

We process data based on your consent and as necessary to provide the core functionality of the app, including rock and mineral identification, reliability, and abuse prevention.

How We Use Information

  • To maintain reliability, prevent abuse, and improve performance.
  • To provide subscription access and entitlement checks (if applicable).

Data Storage & Retention

Scan history, images and any notes you add (such as where a specimen was found) are saved on your device.

We keep limited server-side counters/logs for reliability and abuse prevention and delete them automatically after a limited period.

Data may be processed on servers operated by our service providers, which may be located outside your country.

Supabase

Google Gemini API

We use Google Gemini API for image understanding and identification. Google's privacy policy applies to this processing: https://policies.google.com/privacy.

RevenueCat

We use RevenueCat for subscriptions and purchase processing. Subscription and billing data is handled by RevenueCat according to their privacy policy. We do not have access to your payment information. RevenueCat's privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy.

These providers may process data on our behalf to deliver the service.

Accuracy Disclaimer

Results are generated by AI from a photo and may be incorrect. Value estimates are rough ranges, not appraisals. Do not rely on the app for valuation, purchases or safety decisions; verify with a geologist or standard field tests.

Your Choices

You can delete scan history and reset the app from Settings → Delete all data.

This removes all data stored locally on your device and triggers deletion of any server-side data associated with your anonymous app account identifier, where applicable.

Children’s Privacy

RockID is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date.
